A Tub Full of Silverware

A plastic tub that is, but still, full of old, disgustingly dingy, silverware.

My uncle found it below the stairs in the basement (at Grandmas) & had no idea who'd owned any of the mismatched pieces. (Seriously Grandma?) I doubt any are family pieces, and considering for sabout 40 years she took in exchange Students, Boarders & troubled kids, I think they must just be a mix of some of the secrets that house has to tell.

I know I don't have to tell you how my head has been reeling with sinarios and situations....I guess I'll get out the silver polish and load up google :)

Life and Death in a Garden

Pathetically enough, I'm still mouring the end of vacation. It was so amazing to be so close to the lake. And to be able to walk barefoot out the front door, into dirt and not concrete? Heavenly.

So began another evening stroll around Worcester. To my favorite road with the lovely garden outside...only to find that the peonies are dying. Needless to say, my heart was a bit more bummed.

But that's life in a garden. New growth was shooting up all over, & the air was scented with dirt, humidity and flowers. Which, is one of the best scents ever...I wonder if someone has made that a perfume or a candle? Hmmm...

That's all today, blooming loves.

Moose Crossing

You've seen the signs on the highway.
Those two little words on a yellow road sign have harassed me since I was little kid. Countless road trips riding in the back seat next to my brother, we'd spot the Moose Crossing sign; and, what no doubt became my parents dream, became an agonizing game of seek for us. We pressed our faces against the glass and barely blinked as we silently searched.
Yet, every trip turned up the same results: Nothing, Nope, Nadda
& an overly hopeful "Next Time!" from the front of the car.
So this trip I wasn't expecting much. I didn't even think the "moose thought". Maybe that's the reason things turned out the way they did.
evidence that antlers have been here

gotcha!

who me?

My brother was the one who heard it first, a clomp-clomp-squish sound coming from the lake. Out the window he saw a pair of antlers making their way across, headed towards our beach. Whispering, for no other reason then it was 6 AM, we fell out of our beds and pulled on some shoes; five of the seven of us scrambled down, tripping over tree roots & rocks, kicking up sand...
To see this, so-ugly-he's-cute teenage moose eating some breakfast.

Pure magic, witnessed at dawn standing next to my first partner in crime (& moose sighting).

I guess I should have believed my parents

A week away with the family, I can't even remember the last time everyone was able to stay a whole week! I hope that I can balance boredom and productivity in a way that lets this week pass by slowly but not painful. I also know (hope) that the seven of us will get along (not kill each other) after so long in a charming (tiny) log cabin.

All joking aside, Maine is great. The further we drove, as the towns became more spread out, I felt the stress evaporating like steam from a kettle. I felt my heart start to hum with excitement and ideas. Not big ideas, just innocent small step ideas.

No matter how much I love being young in the city, for me there's nothing that compares to the smells & sounds of nature.

Sending some Maine-iac Fireflies your way!
